Scoring average
The mean score of a player's full 18-hole rounds.
Formula
scoring average = total strokes / full roundsThe oldest number in golf statistics, and still the first one people ask for. BirdieAPI counts it over full rounds only, so a withdrawal after nine holes does not drag it down.
Tours publish an adjusted scoring average that corrects for course difficulty; the raw average here does not, which is what strokes versus the field is for.
The common mistake
Raw averages reward easy schedules. A player who skips the hardest courses has a lower average without being any better.
