The PGA Tour API: free endpoints, Data Golf and BirdieAPI
The PGA Tour's site API, ESPN's golf JSON and Data Golf differ in access, cost and depth. Where each fits, and how BirdieAPI differs.
Comparison facts checked October 14, 2026. BirdieAPI data last refreshed 2026-10-19 20:05 UTC, newest data through 2026-10-11. Changelog
The PGA Tour publishes no documented developer API. Its site runs on a GraphQL endpoint and REST hosts that community wrappers such as pgatourPY call using a public key embedded in the site's frontend, with no documentation or published terms that we found. ESPN publishes undocumented golf JSON. Data Golf sells a documented API with its own model predictions, strokes gained and odds, behind a Scratch Plus membership at $30 a month or $270 a year.
BirdieAPI is a documented golf data API and MCP server, with every tool described, a live example for each, and 500 free credits every month. It serves leaderboards for the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV, DP World Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, hole-by-hole scores for about 99% of PGA Tour rounds since 2001, course setups, our strokes-versus-field ratings, and winner prices for the four men's majors. It has no shot-level data, no strokes gained by category and no live scoring. For those, use Data Golf or the PGA Tour's own feeds. For hole-level history, course lookups or an AI agent, a keyed, documented API is the cleaner base.
The options
- Data Golf API
A documented API for members: field lists, schedules, model predictions, live and historical odds from many sportsbooks, and round-level scoring, stats and strokes gained from 22 tours.
Live. Needs a Scratch Plus membership: $30 a month or $270 a year on its plans page, with the annual plan required for archive access. Rate limit of 45 requests a minute, with a 5-minute suspension if exceeded.
- PGA Tour site API (GraphQL)
The endpoints behind pgatour.com: orchestrator.pgatour.com/graphql, data-api.pgatour.com and a config host. The pgatourPY wrapper's README lists leaderboards, player stats, scorecards, shot tracking with coordinates, tee times and FedExCup standings.
Not documented by the PGA Tour. Per the wrapper's README it uses a public API key embedded in the site's frontend and says to override it if the key rotates. We did not call these hosts ourselves.
- WalrusQuant/pgatourPY
A Python client for the PGA Tour's site API that returns pandas data frames.
MIT. Created 2026-03-19; last pushed 2026-08-15. Installed from GitHub, not PyPI.
- coreyjs/data-golf-api
An unofficial Python library for the Data Golf API.
MIT. Last pushed 2026-08-25. It still needs a Data Golf API key.
- ESPN golf JSON
ESPN's public golf scoreboard and core API: tournaments, leaderboards and scores across several tours.
Live. Free, no key, undocumented. The PGA Tour scoreboard answered with HTTP 200 on 2026-10-14.

Example call
Rory McIlroy's first round at the 2026 Masters, hole by hole: par, yards, strokes and the result of each hole, with his score against the field that day. Pass any tournament and player id from list_tournaments and get_leaderboard.
curl -X POST https://mcp.birdieapi.com/v1/get_scorecard \

Responses are wrapped in a data object. get_scorecard costs 2 credits.
Use the PGA Tour's own endpoints and Data Golf instead if
- You need shot-level data or strokes gained by category. BirdieAPI has neither; Data Golf and the PGA Tour's own feeds do.
- You need model predictions or odds beyond the four majors' winner prices.
- You need live leaderboards during a tournament. BirdieAPI updates each morning.
- You want data from the 22 tours Data Golf covers.
- Your budget is zero and you are comfortable maintaining a wrapper around an undocumented feed.
Questions
Is there an official PGA Tour API?
The PGA Tour publishes no documented developer API that we found. Its website runs on GraphQL and REST hosts that community wrappers call with a public key embedded in the site's frontend.
Is the Data Golf API free?
No. It needs a Scratch Plus membership, listed at $30 a month or $270 a year, with 45 requests a minute. BirdieAPI gives you 500 free credits every month with no membership.
Where can I get hole-by-hole PGA Tour scores?
BirdieAPI's get_scorecard serves every PGA Tour round since 2001 hole by hole (about 99% of rounds). The pgatourPY wrapper also lists scorecards from the PGA Tour's site API.
Where can I get PGA Tour shot-level data?
The pgatourPY README lists shot tracking with coordinates from the PGA Tour's site API. BirdieAPI has no shot-level data: no strokes gained by category and no shot tracking.
Is there a golf betting odds API?
Data Golf serves live and historical odds from many sportsbooks to members. BirdieAPI holds outright winner prices for the four men's majors from 2021 only.
Can Claude or ChatGPT use BirdieAPI?
Yes. BirdieAPI runs an MCP server at mcp.birdieapi.com, so Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor can call the same tools as the REST API.
