Why trust it
Every round against the field that played the same course.
A score means little until it is set against the day it was shot. Every round here is, and the joins that make that true are checked rather than assumed.
Holes checked against the round
Each round's hole strokes are added up and compared with the round total ESPN reports, and a hole whose par the feed leaves out is filled from the course setup, never guessed as a zero.
Pro-am rounds put on the right course
Tournaments played over three courses do not say which one a round was on. The round's pars are matched hole by hole to each course's setup, so every round is compared only with the field that played the same course that day.
Strokes versus the field that knows who was in it
Every round is measured against the field's average, then corrected for how strong that field was. The rating built from it uses only rounds played before each date, so a past rating is what it was then.

Questions
The things people ask before signing up.
Is BirdieAPI free?
Every account starts with 500 credits and no card. Calls cost 1 to 5 credits depending on the endpoint, so 500 is a few hundred real requests. Paid plans start at $19/mo for 10,000 credits a month, and wallet top-ups never expire.
How far back does the data go?
PGA Tour leaderboards and round scores run from the 2001 season to the current one, with the strokes on each hole for about 99% of rounds; driving, greens and putting lines from 2011. The LPGA, LIV and the DP World Tour have leaderboards and round scores (no holes) for the seasons each tour's page lists. There are no golf odds.
What is MCP, and do I need it?
MCP is the protocol Claude, Cursor and similar assistants use to call tools. Point one at https://mcp.birdieapi.com/mcp with your key and it picks the endpoint and reads the response itself — no client code. If you are writing an application instead, ignore MCP and use the REST endpoints; they are the same 13 tools.
Can I use this commercially?
Yes, inside your own product or model, within the terms. Reselling the data itself as a feed is not permitted. BirdieAPI is independent and not affiliated with the PGA Tour, the LPGA, LIV Golf, the DP World Tour or ESPN.
How current is it?
One update a day, early morning US Eastern (10:00 UTC): each tour's tournaments in play, just finished or coming up, with leaderboards, rounds and holes, then strokes versus the field and the ratings. There is no live, shot-by-shot feed: a round in progress shows as of the morning.
Where does the golf data come from?
Tournaments, leaderboards, round and hole scores, courses and stat lines from public ESPN data. Strokes versus the field, the field-strength adjustment, the ratings, hole difficulty and every aggregate are computed here from those scores.
What are the rate limits?
60 requests a minute, dropping to 10 if your credit balance falls below 100. The limit is the same on every plan — credits, not requests, are the spend boundary.
