Playoff
also: sudden death
Extra holes played when two or more players tie for the lead after the last round.
Most tours settle a tie for first with sudden death: the tied players replay one or more holes until one of them wins a hole outright. Majors have used aggregate playoffs over two to four holes.
BirdieAPI stores a playoff as its own round for each player in it, with the holes in the order they were played and the strokes on each.
The common mistake
Playoff holes are not part of the tournament total or the player's scoring average; counting them would charge the winner for extra golf.
