The share of par 4 and par 5 tee shots that finish in the fairway.
Formula
driving accuracy = fairways hit / par 4 and par 5 holes played x 100From the fairway a player can control the spin and distance of the next shot; from the rough he often cannot. Accuracy is half of driving; distance is the other half.
BirdieAPI serves it from ESPN's tournament stat line for PGA Tour events from 2011, for players who made the cut.
The common mistake
Courses differ a lot in fairway width. Compare players over the same tournaments, or over a full season, not across single events.
