Par 3, par 4 and par 5 splits
also: sg_par3 · sg_par4 · sg_par5 · strokes versus the field by hole type
Strokes versus the field on par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes separately, PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour.
sg_par4 = expected average-player strokes over par on par 4s that day - player's strokes over par on par 4sFor each round with every hole scored, we take the player's strokes over par on the par 3s, the par 4s and the par 5s, and compare each with the field on the same course that day. The three add up to the round's strokes versus the field. Each is then adjusted for field strength with the same model as adj_vs_field, fitted once per hole type. Positive is better.
It is built from hole-by-hole scores only. We do not have shot-level data, so there is no off-the-tee, approach, around-the-green or putting split, and these are not strokes gained categories. A big par 5 number can come from reaching them in two or from playing them well, and the scores cannot say which.
PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour only, because those are the tours where nearly every round has hole scores. Other tours return null.
Par 3 and par 5 splits rest on fewer holes per round than par 4s (usually four par 3s, four par 5s, ten par 4s), so they move more from round to round. Use a full season.
