Outright winner odds

also: outright odds · to win · tournament winner odds

A sportsbook's price on a golfer to win the whole tournament, posted weeks or months before the first round.

Formula
implied probability = 100 / (odds + 100) for plus odds, -odds / (-odds + 100) for minus odds

Golf is priced as a long list of names: the favourite at a few to one, most of the field at +5000 and longer. A price of +400 implies 20% before the book's margin, and the implied probabilities of a whole field add up to well over 100%.

get_winner_odds returns, for each golfer and book, the opening price (the first snapshot), the latest price before the first round and the implied probabilities, so you can see how the market moved from the start of the season to the first tee.

The common mistake

The archive is weekly, so the latest price is the Friday before the first round and can be a week old by the first tee time. A golfer who was injured, withdrew or was added to the field in that week is still priced at his last snapshot.
